janroe.com has restarted!
Janroe has been online since 2001, with stories about my surroundings, travels and interesting events. The site went offline in 2004 when the hosting company at the time abruptly stopped its business, and its company's owner apparently went on a world cruise with his customers' hosting fees. Yes, those were the days...
The site has remained dormant, as its backups had not been fully up to date and rebuilding proved difficult. I focussed on other matters, like settling down and starting a family.
The original site consisted mainly of manual html, and had an integrated phpbb forum and coppermin photo album. In January 2009 I decided a modest restart with Drupal, which I had been working with for several work related sites as well. But honestly, aside from converting the earlier forum content and archiving it in the new system, I have not had much time to add content.
I must admit that my choice for Drupal as the site's cms has also slowed things down. It turns out that its internal forum module does not offer some of the basic administration features that I had expected. I've also gathered together a list of Drupal photo album modules, but have not been able to come up with one that I like - they would all require major tinkering. Since I'm no developer/coder, tinkering with things is tedious, and during update times causes technical maintenance is best avoided.
So its work in process. Slowly but surely.
