This site has been online since 2001. A handmade site with content about my surroundings, travels and interesting events. The content was lost in 2004, when the site's hosting company unexpectedly stopped hosting and stopped business, without warning. Reportedly the hosting company's owner decided to take a world cruise with his customers' hosting fees. Yes, those were the days.

Backups of the content made through a GSM mobile phone connection proved too faulty to restore. Another work related site was lost as well. I decided to let my personal site be for a while and focussed on other matters. I settled down and starting a family.

In January 2009 I decided a modest restart. While the the original site had been manually constructed, using manual notepad coded html, with an integrated phpbb forum and coppermine photo album, I decided on Drupal for the new site. I had been working with Drupal for several work related sites already. Yet honestly, aside from converting the earlier forum content and archiving it in the new system, I simply have not had the time to make something "nice" out of my own, personal site yet.

I admit that my choice for Drupal as the site's cms also slowed things down. It turns out that its internal forum module does not offer some of the administration features that I had expected. I haven't been able to find a photo album module that I like. Customising takes major tinkering, this is time-consuming and tedious come update time. So I still need to make the site look nice.
